Customer reviews

Excellent
  • Boiler kept dropping pressure and locking out. Found the expansion vessel had lost its charge, explained it on the spot and had heating back that afternoon.

    Boiler Repair, Harborne

  • Kitchen sink and the gully outside both backing up. Rodded from the inspection chamber, showed us the fat build-up and left everything cleaner than they found it.

    Drain Unblocking, Kings Heath

  • Booked the yearly service. Arrived when they said, took the time to clean the condensate trap properly and talked me through the flue readings.

    Boiler Service, Solihull

  • Two radiators cold at the bottom in an old Victorian house. Straight answer on what was worth saving and what needed replacing, and a written price first.

    Radiator Repair and Replacement, Moseley

  • Whole bathroom stripped and refitted. Pipework moved for the new shower without fuss and the finish around the bath is spot on.

    Bathroom Installation, Sutton Coldfield

  • Three student houses checked in one morning, records sent over the same week. Straightforward, which is all you want as a landlord.

Gas Safety Certificate for Landlords, Selly Oak

  • Damp patch on the dining room ceiling with no obvious cause. Traced it to a weeping joint under the bath panel before anyone lifted a floorboard.

    Leak Detection, Edgbaston

  • Tundish dripping constantly on our unvented cylinder. Diagnosed the relief valve, fitted the part and tested the whole thing before leaving.

    Hot Water Cylinder, West Bromwich

One plumber for the whole house, not just the one job

Birmingham homes run from Victorian back-to-backs with old lead and iron pipework to 1930s semis and new city-centre flats. Whatever the house, these are the jobs we are called for most.

When water is going where it should not

A burst pipe in the loft, a ceiling starting to bulge, a toilet that will not stop filling. Urgent jobs go to the front of the list, and while you wait we tell you how to shut the water off at the stopcock and make the area safe.

  • Burst and split pipes, including frozen ones
  • Leaks through ceilings and down walls
  • Overflows, failed valves and running toilets

Everyday plumbing repairs, done properly

Dripping taps, weak showers, a stopcock seized solid in a Victorian terrace, a washing machine that needs plumbing in. Small jobs get the same care as big ones: the right washer or cartridge, joints made up properly and everything checked before we go.

  • Taps, valves, cartridges and stopcocks
  • Toilets, cisterns and flush mechanisms
  • Pipework in copper, plastic and old lead
Plumber checking hoses and fittings

Boilers, cylinders and central heating

Yearly servicing, fault-finding when the display shows a code, a new boiler sized to the house, cylinders, radiators and full heating systems. Gas work in the UK must by law be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, so ask to see the card before any gas work starts.

  • Boiler servicing, repair and replacement
  • Vented and unvented hot water cylinders
  • Radiators, underfloor heating and power flushing

Drainage that runs clear again

Slow sinks, gurgling plugholes, a gully outside overflowing after rain. We find where the blockage actually is, clear it with rods or water jetting, and tell you what caused it so it does not come straight back.

  • Sinks, baths, showers and toilets
  • Outside gullies and inspection chambers
  • Hidden leaks traced before anything is opened up

Bathrooms and new installations

Full bathroom refits and shower rooms from first fix to finish, new radiators and heating circuits, underfloor heating in an extension. The layout is planned with you first, the pipework runs where it should, and the work is tested before anything is closed in.

Guides worth reading before you pick up the phone

Plain explanations of the problems we get asked about most, and what you can safely check yourself first.

  • White panel radiator fixed to a bare brick wall
    Radiators

Radiator cold at the top or bottom? What it means and what to do

Where a radiator is cold tells you a lot about why. Cold at the top usually means air, cold at the bottom usually means sludge, and a radiator that stays cold all over points to a valve, the pump or the balance of the system. This guide explains each pattern, the checks you can safely do yourself, and the point where a plumber is needed.

  • Close-up of a sink plughole with water draining slowly
    Drains

Blocked drain or sink? What to try first and when to stop

A slow sink and a backed-up manhole need very different answers. This guide shows you how to tell a blockage in one fitting from a problem in the drain itself, the safe things to try first, the common mistakes that make blockages worse, and who is responsible for which pipes around your home.

  • Hands working on the pump inside a gas boiler
    Gas safety

A landlord's guide to the gas safety check and record

If you let a home in England with gas appliances, the law requires an annual gas safety check and a written record for your tenants. This guide explains what the check involves, the deadlines for copies and records, what happens if an appliance is unsafe, and how responsibility works with letting agents, HMOs and tenants' own appliances.

Questions

Questions people ask before they book

The things we get asked most often. Anything else, put it in the form and we will answer it with your price.

Pump group being assembled on a bench
Which parts of Birmingham do you cover?

The whole city, from Sutton Coldfield in the north to Northfield and Bartley Green in the south, and the towns around it: Solihull, West Bromwich, Smethwick, Halesowen, Dudley, Walsall and out as far as about twenty miles. The areas page lists every town.

How do I get a price?

Fill in Quick Quote Online with a short description of the job and your postcode. Straightforward repairs can usually be priced from the description; for bigger jobs such as a new bathroom or a heating system we look at the property first. Either way the price is written down before any work starts.

Can you help with an urgent leak?

Yes. Urgent jobs are put to the front of the list. While you wait, turn the water off at the stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink or where the pipe enters the house), switch off the boiler or immersion if water is near electrics, and move valuables away from the leak.

Do you work on gas boilers?

Yes: servicing, repairs, replacements and landlord gas safety checks. By law, gas work in the UK must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. You can ask to see the engineer's card and check it on the Gas Safe Register before any gas work starts.

Do you work for landlords and letting agents?

Yes. Annual landlord gas safety checks, boiler and cylinder repairs, leaks and blocked drains in rented homes, including student lets and flats. We can arrange access directly with tenants if you ask us to.

Is Birmingham water hard or soft?

Most of Birmingham gets soft water from the Elan Valley reservoirs in mid Wales, so heavy limescale is less common in the city than in many places. Some surrounding towns are supplied from harder sources, which is worth knowing if you are fitting a new boiler or cylinder there.
