Customer reviews

Excellent
  • Three student houses checked in one morning, records sent over the same week. Straightforward, which is all you want as a landlord.

Gas Safety Certificate for Landlords, Selly Oak

  • Damp patch on the dining room ceiling with no obvious cause. Traced it to a weeping joint under the bath panel before anyone lifted a floorboard.

    Leak Detection, Edgbaston

  • Tundish dripping constantly on our unvented cylinder. Diagnosed the relief valve, fitted the part and tested the whole thing before leaving.

    Hot Water Cylinder, West Bromwich

  • Boiler kept dropping pressure and locking out. Found the expansion vessel had lost its charge, explained it on the spot and had heating back that afternoon.

    Boiler Repair, Harborne

  • Kitchen sink and the gully outside both backing up. Rodded from the inspection chamber, showed us the fat build-up and left everything cleaner than they found it.

    Drain Unblocking, Kings Heath

  • Booked the yearly service. Arrived when they said, took the time to clean the condensate trap properly and talked me through the flue readings.

    Boiler Service, Solihull

  • Two radiators cold at the bottom in an old Victorian house. Straight answer on what was worth saving and what needed replacing, and a written price first.

    Radiator Repair and Replacement, Moseley

  • Whole bathroom stripped and refitted. Pipework moved for the new shower without fuss and the finish around the bath is spot on.

    Bathroom Installation, Sutton Coldfield

Our story

Built around the jobs Birmingham homes actually need

Most plumbing calls are not dramatic. A cistern that will not stop running. A boiler that needs topping up every week. A kitchen sink that drains a little slower each month until one evening it does not drain at all. The Birmingham Plumber was set up to deal with exactly those jobs properly, and to be just as ready for the burst pipe or the full bathroom refit when they come along.

The city makes that interesting. A morning can start in a Harborne terrace with lead pipe still feeding the kitchen tap and finish in a Jewellery Quarter flat where the boiler sits in a cupboard the size of a wardrobe. Knowing how houses of each era were plumbed, and how they have been altered since, is most of what makes a repair go smoothly.

How a job is run

You describe the problem, we ask whatever we need to know, and you get a written price. On the day we protect the floor, explain what we have found before we start, and use parts that suit your system rather than whatever happens to be in the van. When the work is done it is tested, the area is cleaned up, and you are told what was done and whether anything else needs keeping an eye on.

If a repair is not worth doing, you hear that too. Sometimes the honest answer is that an old boiler or a corroded radiator will cost more to keep patching than to replace, and sometimes it is that the part costs very little and the rest is fine for years yet.

The standards the work is held to

  • Gas work in the UK must by law be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Ask to see the card, and check it on the Gas Safe Register.
  • Unvented hot water cylinders fall under Building Regulations Part G3, which requires a competent installer and notification.
  • Electrical work in bathrooms is notifiable under Part P and is done or signed off by a registered electrician.
  • Water fittings must meet the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations, which cover things like backflow protection on outside taps and mixer showers.

Why people book us

What you can expect on every visit

Four things that hold true whether the job takes twenty minutes or two weeks.

  • Honest advice

You are told what is wrong, what it needs and what can wait. If a repair is not worth doing, you hear that before any money is spent.

  • Clear communication

A written price before work starts, a time that is kept, and a plain explanation of what was done when the job is finished.

  • Fully tested work

Every repair, replacement and installation is tested before we leave: pressure, flow, leaks and, on gas work, the safety checks the law requires.

  • One point of contact

The same person deals with your job from the first message to the final check, so nothing gets lost between office and van.
