Customer reviews

Excellent
  • Two radiators cold at the bottom in an old Victorian house. Straight answer on what was worth saving and what needed replacing, and a written price first.

    Radiator Repair and Replacement, Moseley

  • Whole bathroom stripped and refitted. Pipework moved for the new shower without fuss and the finish around the bath is spot on.

    Bathroom Installation, Sutton Coldfield

  • Three student houses checked in one morning, records sent over the same week. Straightforward, which is all you want as a landlord.

Gas Safety Certificate for Landlords, Selly Oak

  • Damp patch on the dining room ceiling with no obvious cause. Traced it to a weeping joint under the bath panel before anyone lifted a floorboard.

    Leak Detection, Edgbaston

  • Tundish dripping constantly on our unvented cylinder. Diagnosed the relief valve, fitted the part and tested the whole thing before leaving.

    Hot Water Cylinder, West Bromwich

  • Boiler kept dropping pressure and locking out. Found the expansion vessel had lost its charge, explained it on the spot and had heating back that afternoon.

    Boiler Repair, Harborne

  • Kitchen sink and the gully outside both backing up. Rodded from the inspection chamber, showed us the fat build-up and left everything cleaner than they found it.

    Drain Unblocking, Kings Heath

  • Booked the yearly service. Arrived when they said, took the time to clean the condensate trap properly and talked me through the flue readings.

Birmingham

A city of very different houses

Birmingham is not one kind of housing. Victorian back-to-backs and long terraces sit a few streets from 1930s semis, post-war estates and glass-fronted apartments. Harborne still has a distinctly Victorian feel; Edgbaston is leafy with large detached houses; Selly Oak mixes old industrial streets with rows of student lets; Nechells and Newtown have the 1960s tower blocks. Each of those changes what a plumbing job actually involves.

In an older terrace in Moseley or Kings Heath the pipework may be a patchwork of lead, iron, copper and plastic from a century of alterations, and the stopcock is often buried under the front step. In a 1930s semi in Hall Green the original gravity heating has usually been converted to a combi at some point, sometimes well and sometimes not. In a block, the water supply, the soil stack and even the heating can be shared, which means checking who owns which pipe before anything is cut.

What we are called out for most

Across the city the jobs are much the same: leaks and urgent plumbing, blocked sinks and gullies, boilers that lose pressure or show a fault code, radiators cold at the bottom, and landlords needing their yearly gas checks before a new tenancy. The home page sets out everything that is covered.

Birmingham's water comes mainly from the Elan Valley reservoirs in mid Wales and is soft, so the heavy limescale that clogs boilers and showers in hard-water areas is less of a problem in the city itself. Some of the towns further out are supplied from harder groundwater, which matters when a new boiler or unvented cylinder is being chosen, and we will say so if it applies to you.

How the area is covered

Jobs are planned by area so travel time does not eat into the work. Straightforward repairs can usually be priced from your description; bigger jobs like a new bathroom or a heating system get a visit first. Either way, you get the price in writing before anything starts.

Questions

Questions about where we work

Canal-side townhouses in Birmingham
Is there a call-out difference for towns further out?

The price is worked out from the job itself: what is wrong, the parts it needs and how long it will take. Travel is part of that, and it is written into the price you receive before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the day.

Do you cover towns outside the West Midlands county?

Yes. The list on this page runs out to about twenty miles from the city centre, which takes in towns in Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire such as Lichfield, Tamworth, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Kidderminster and Warwick.

My town is not listed. Can you still help?

Possibly. The list covers the towns we are asked about most, not every village in between. Put your postcode in Quick Quote Online and we will tell you straight away whether it is covered.

Do you work in flats and tower blocks?

Yes, including high-rise blocks with shared risers and communal drainage. Some work in blocks needs the building manager or housing provider to agree access to shared pipework first, and we can talk that through with you.

A line or two is plenty: what has gone wrong or what you want fitted, the boiler make if it is heating, and roughly where in the house.
